  • The Dress VS The Scarf

Here at MISS SIMONI, we had long prided ourselves on our dresses. Personally designed elegant and fun dresses ruled the market last summer, we made sure that everything from the cut to the patterning was sophisticated and comfortable. We saw a high season in the summer, when our chic cotton dresses became a uniform for many, but lately we have seen a shifting pattern. Sure, we all know that when the leaves start to fall and when the temperature drops so low that you can literally see you breathing in the morning, the last thing we would be prompted to wear a cute little dress. But, it seems that during these gloomy few months we seem to reserve any type of dress or “girly” garments for formal occasions only. How much does this change in weather affect our moods and thus seasonal wardrobe? Is there nothing else that can serve the purpose of making some fashion statement in the cold… that could still make a statement while you are covered in your trench coat?

Herein lies this (somewhat obvious)yet often unspoken answer: scarves. Yes, the wind and chills largely restraint us to wool clothing and heavy boots, but with the variety of scarves that MISS SIMONI’s collection has for you, you can still be a style diva in the town. A small piece of fabric which is so perfectly stitched, embroidered, woven, beaded or even knitted to make a scarf that you quickly wrap around your neck and it can be more personal than which jacket variation you choose.

Not only is there far more variety in choosing a scarf rather than a garment, but there is virtually no ‘proper’ way to wear it. A generally lower price also allows for a greater collection. And as opposed to dresses, their popularity does not change according to month. Light, summer scarves are great to spice up a blazer or even wear on the head. Fall’s emphasis on ‘layering’ is an obvious call for the use of slightly thicker scarves. And winter’s chills can only be fought off with a warm, wool scarf wrapped tightly around your neck. And there are show off scarves that you wear to your favorite parties and get togethers. So, at your ultimate decision of which fashion piece is our most coveted item? Scarf, by far!!

  • My ‘Threety’ with life

I, Aruna Arya gave birth to a daughter in Sep 2011, started a company in April 2012 and planted a tree in May 2012. . I nourish my three creations with all of my heart and soul! They all need attention, love and energy which I am devoting to the 100% of me. My plant sometimes sheds yellow leaves and I realize that it is time for some food, my baby gives me a cold shoulder one fine day and I know that we need a family outing, my store makes no sale on a day and I buck up to design and source more interesting products for the floor. It is all challenging, interesting and a part of me now. I cherish every morning meeting my challenges which are my pride. They are all growing fine but the challenge was and is never to grow them… The real challenge is to grow them right, to give them the right face, values, discipline and moral so it grows to make me proud always!!

  • Aruna Arya- The Life, The Dream and The Fashion store

Aruna Arya knows how important it is to find your own voice and outlet of expression. Born the sixth child to a conservative Indian family, Ms. Arya spent the first part of her life in the busy city of Kolkata, often dubbed the ‘city of joy’.

Her interest in the fashion and textiles industry dates back to her primary education, during which she became completely consumed with beauty and design. She often fondly recalls her days of history class back in high school, where she was more interested in what certain important figures were wearing rather than the societal function that they had played. She began to recognize the influence that appearance had on how one was viewed not only by their peers, but on the legacy that one might leave. She specifically remembers, with a laugh, how she had often wondered as a child whether or not Gandhi’s hand woven khakhi had made him seem more elegant than the sophisticated plaid Burberry trench coat spoted by the English soldiers. Ms. Arya knew, even as a girl, that she would only be cut out to one day work in the fashion industry.

Ms. Arya completed her under graduated degree in English literature while still in India and took it as her initial journey into artistic expression. But soon she replaced the books with threads and fabrics instead, and thus began her dive into the fashion world.

Ms. Arya soon became a recognized face in the fashion world at home, having helped design for various Indian textile firms, she also worked as a free-lance fashion designer and consultant, and even won a local runway design contest. However, it was not until she moved to San Francisco, California, USA, that Ms. Arya started making serious plans to launch her own label and store.

Finally the time arrived in April 2012 when her dream venture was put alive in Princeton, NJ and was served to the locals. With the firm message of :

“Disobey fashion rules and do yourself a favor”
